If a person walked up to you right now and asks, “What type of person are you?” What would be your response? As for me, I would be astounded at first but soon enough if the person persists, I would be left with no choice but to start explaining. For example, a person might say I am loving, I am caring, I am kind, I don’t take nonsense, et Al. The list is endless. Nobody can fully explain themselves in a single conversation. But in most cases, what a person describes himself or herself to be isn’t truly the case. The question here is “why?”
This is because in most cases, people describe themselves in terms of what they wish to be and not in terms of what they truly are. Most people aren’t factual with themselves; they describe themselves in their ideal definition of a person and not as they truly are. But the truth from Brian Tracy, the best selling author of Change your thinking, Change your life says that “You are not what you think you are but what you think, you are.”
What this means is that you are not defined by the things you think you should be but by the things you think of most of the time. We are a product of our most dominant thoughts. The things that you think of most of the time would determine your actions and your actions are the true definition of you. You can as well say that “You are not what you think you should do but what you do, you are.” For instance, a person does not sing because he is a singer but he is a singer because he sings. A person does not do good because he is a good person but he is a good person because he does good. A person does not play football because he is a footballer but he is a footballer because he plays football. I do not write because I am a writer but I am a writer because I write. The list goes on and on like that. It is what we think and do that defines us and not what we think we should be doing.
In concluding this article, I would like to ask you again, “Are you what you think you are or what you think, you are?” I am deeply rooting for your responses in the comments section.
It is also my hope that you wouldn’t be stingy with this to the extent that you wouldn’t want to share with a friend. Of course you aren’t stingy! Comment and share please.😊
